Well

Well, I'm done. Hurrah. Now we wait to find out if I passed.

November 20th, 6pm. I'll see you then. It's time for a nap.

for the withdrawal

I know some of my in-laws are suffering mightily right now from acute Harper withdrawal having said goodbye to her earlier today. In recognition of you and all those others for whom it has been even longer (or never) since you last saw Harper I provide the following video for your viewing pleasure. This was filmed using my phone so its not quite as clear as my previous videos.

Safe journey home other half of my team!

15 Months

Harper and I are headed to Salt Lake tomorrow for a few days so that Tom can have some peace and quiet during his last few days before the bar. We are going to miss Tom, but I am happy we are going to be getting away from the stress for a few days. This whole bar-studying experience has been pretty miserable.

Tomorrow Harper will be 15 months old and she is so much fun right now. Here is some of what she has been up to lately.
1. She is SO CLOSE to walking. Every time she stands up she looks like she's going to take off, but then she chickens out.
2. She loves to do everything that she's not supposed to. When I'm not looking she will head right toward something she knows she's not supposed to have and then start laughing and shaking her head.
3. She understands so much of what we say it's crazy. Currently she can point to her eyes, ears, nose, mouth, tongue, teeth, fingers, toes, feet, and hair.
4. When we sing her a song she "sings" along with us.
5. She says "woof woof" when asked what sound a dog makes.
6. She loves to eat yogurt, raisins, crackers, and applesauce. Actually, that's pretty much all she eats.

We just love her so much, she's the best!

The Walker

We’re on a video roll here…

So we tried to get Harper to use a walker Erica’s dad bought for her birthday.  She loved pressing the buttons and putting stuff in and out of the basket but she didn’t really show much interest in actually using it as a walker.  That changed about a month ago when she suddenly figured out what the thing was supposed to be used for.  Now she spends a few minutes every day going back and forth with it.  She has really been enjoying it a lot.  Check out her progress over the last month in the video below.

It is funny how babies really are like Benjamin Button – they grow old in reverse.  I can just see her walking around with a little walker with some tennis balls on the ends.  Watching her get older I feel like I’m seeing a window into my future.  You know Depends now makes his and her diapers?  At least I won’t have to deal with unisex diapers.

Harper's new hobby

I told my Mom about Harper's new hobby on the phone earlier and she requested a video, so here it is. Harper is doing so many new things lately, it's been so much fun!

You’ll never guess the subject of this post

So we have this daughter named Harper.  Its been awhile since we posted some videos of her so I thought we would do that.

Harper is a big talker but she doesn’t really speak any words anyone can understand yet.  However, her understanding of our words is growing at leaps and bounds.  The first video illustrates her growing vocabulary, as well as her continued love of the swings.

Harper can communicate in many ways, just not with the spoken word, e.g., pointing, screaming, grunting, etc.  Her latest (to our consternation) is the head shake.  Any suggestion that Harper doesn’t like is met with a stern head shaking.  I’m not sure where she picked this up.  Don’t be fooled by her sweet demeanor in this video.  One of these days I’ll record a full on temper tantrum, complete with ear piercing screams and stretched out arms in the air, slack bodied “pick Harper up resistance.”

Whew

I just received word that the CA Bar’s ridiculously expensive  (to a poor recent grad such as myself) background check has given me a clean bill ‘o health.  Also known as the Moral Character Determination test, this is the kind of thing that lets in reformed killers but not someone with unpaid parking tickets (no really).  As you can see, the bar (depending on how you look at it) is quite high.  I wonder if I can skip judgment day and just head straight to the pearly gates where I’ll show Peter the letter they sent me.

Griffith Park

On Saturday Harper and I went up to Griffith Park for a few hours. Our wonderful friend Jean has organized several field trips for this summer and this is the first one that we have been able to attend. Harper is a little young for most of the activities, but she had fun playing with her little friends and riding the trains:And crawling around and playing with rocks:
It was a little warmer than Harper is used to and she ended up very pink. Actually, I think that the last time she was this hot is when we went to a picnic in Malibu with the firm Tom worked for last summer. It was fun to visit with some friends and we are looking forward going on a few more field trips this summer.

Happy Fourth of July - a shameless excuse to post more photos!

Well - Tom here, just taking a "quick" break from my hard work studying for the bar. We got back a few hours ago from a little 4th of July get together we had with friends from church. I have no proof that those friends exist because I didn't really take any pictures of them. We're more important so I guess that's OK.

Harper liked the Oreo Klondike Bar

This is what happens when you take away Harper's Klondike bar.

I really like this picture of my gorgeous wife.

Here are some more photos we took from the last couple of days.

I may be cute, but I assure you that I am in fact a Grade A stinker!

They can show that on television?

If wonder what it is like to wear a shirt.

Harper likes to look at the tub fill up while she waits for her bath time.

She may drive us crazy, but she also makes us laugh. No really, we're going bonkers around here. UPS is going to show up one day to deliver a package and all that the delivery guy is going to hear is maniacal laughing coming from the other side of the door.
