greetings from Utah

We have been in Utah for the last couple of days to visit family and bless Harper. Tom is headed back in the morning and I'll be back later this week, so there are more pictures to come.

gratuitous photo post

There's not much happening with us this week. On Wednesday Harper had her first ride on public transportation. We took the bus up to the mall in Century City where we had dinner with Tom's mentor from last summer, his wife, and their adorable little girl Willa. It was a lot of fun and great to see them since they are moving to Delaware in a couple of weeks.

Harper seems to be feeling a lot better. She's still a little congested and today she had the last of her antibiotic for her urinary tract infection. We have been to the doctor four times in the last week. What a nightmare. One of those appointments was her 2 month checkup. At the appointment she weighed 11 lbs. 5 oz., was 22 inches long, and her head circumference was 15.5 inches. The doctor said that is right around the 50th percentile for everything. Somehow in the last week she went from having all of her newborn/0-3 month clothes fitting her to outgrowing most of them. Harper didn't get her 2 month shots yet because she's been sick, so we'll get those next week when we get back from Utah.

Speaking of Utah, we're so excited to be going tomorrow! I'm not looking forward to the plane ride, hopefully Harper will sleep through it. We are so excited for more of our family members to meet Harper!

Anyway, here are a few photos from the last week. I'm going to try to work on uploading photos to flickr today, so that should be updated as well. Just click on the photo to see the next one.

It's HOT!

Today we went up to Malibu for a picnic and activities with Hogan. I had been looking forward to this because it is the firm's only family oriented summer activity so Harper and I got to go, but it was pretty miserable. We were up in the canyon and it was about 97 degrees when we got there at 11am. Poor Harper, who still isn't feeling very well, was such a trooper. She was too little to do any of the activities (pony rides, petting zoo, water slides), so we just hung out and chatted with some associates from the firm. Here we are in front of the ponies:
She got a little relief from a big misting fan. She seemed like she really liked it.
Overall, it would have been a fun day if it had been a little cooler. Harper does seem to be feeling a little better. We went back to the doctor this morning and she's now on an oral antibiotic. We're going back on Monday morning so we should know then exactly what kind of infection she has.

poor baby :(

Harper woke up last night congested with a cough and a fever. She has been pretty cranky for the last few days, and it turns out that she probably has a cold and a urinary tract infection. Poor girl. We won't know for sure until the lab results were back, but that's what the doctor thought. They had to catheterize her and draw blood which was a complete nightmare. Her veins are so tiny that they tried four times and Harper screamed the whole time. It was awful. She also had to get two shots of antibiotic in her legs. She was so exhausted from screaming that she actually fell asleep during the last attempt at drawing her blood. Here's a photo from after we got home. She actually had another band-aid on her left hand, but it fell off.
On the bright side, I found out that she now weighs about 11 lbs. 3 oz., so she is quickly making up for all the weight she lost in the beginning. We have to go back tomorrow for another antibiotic shot, and then we have her 2 month appointment on Monday where she's getting even more shots so this is going to be a traumatic few days.

grinning girl

Harper is usually really smiley when she's on her changing table. She had a pretty cranky day today, so this is me trying to get her to smile. Sorry the camera is a little shaky, she kept kicking my arm. Click here to view a larger version.

Happy Belated Father's Day. . .

. . .to my Dad, Stepdad, Father-in-law, and wonderful husband. I am so glad to have all of you in my life!

We celebrated by going to Redlands to visit Tom's aunt and uncle. Tom's sister Denise and her family were also there. We had a wonderful time (thanks Bob and Judy!) and Harper got to meet her cousin AJ for the first time. She wasn't quite sure what to think at first . . .
But she warmed up eventually.

summary of our week

It has been a few days and my Mom called to complain that she wanted more pictures of her granddaughter, so I guess it's time to update. Tom got back from Washington DC late last night (woohoo!), but I will try to convince him to make a post about his trip.

Harper and I hung out at home all week. I had plans to go shopping and take care of some errands while Tom was gone since he normally has the car in the daytime, but instead we just hung out at home. It sounds boring, but it was pretty great. I love to hang out with Harper and she is getting more amusing every day. She now tracks movement (it's pretty jerky, but she does it), grins A LOT, and makes all kinds of gurgling and cooing sounds. And last night (I hope I don't jinx things by saying this) she slept for a 6.5 hour stretch. My favorite thing that she has started doing is when I pick her up, especially if she is upset, she hooks her arm around my shoulder and rests her head against my collar bone. It's so cute.

I have been trying to get a picture of Harper grinning, but I haven't had any luck. Every time I take out the camera she just stares at it and gets a really concerned look on her face. I did get a picture with a little smile in the car on our way to the mall today.
We went to the mall because none of my pre-pregnancy clothes fit and I pretty much wear the same thing every day now. It's depressing. I didn't find anything (of course, sigh), but it was fun to spend some time with Tom since he has been gone all week.
Speaking of Tom being gone all week, I tried to take a picture of Harper each day that he was gone and send it to his Blackberry. Here are some of the photos I took.
Here's Harper first thing in the morning:
Here she is right after her bath:
Harper with bedhead (you can't really tell from this picture but it's sticking straight up in the back):
One last thing before I get to bed. I was reminiscing about this post the other day when I took this at the gas station by our apartment. I am so glad that we drive a hybrid.

We have an interesting week ahead of us. Tom is going to Washington DC with the firm that he is working for. I'm not really worried about being home alone with Harper, but we are going to miss Tom. This is actually the first time since we started dating that we will go a day without seeing each other. I'm probably going to be pretty bored, so if anyone wants to come over and hang out, please do. Tom went to the Getty Center museum with some people from the firm for a tour on Friday. He took a few photos with his cell phone.

Here's Tom waiting for the tram up to the museum
Tom's group getting a tour of the museum.View from the top.
Harper is doing great. She is getting bigger, but still hasn't outgrown any of her clothes yet. She is getting close, but even her tiniest newborn size things still fit her. She has started smiling a lot more often, especially in the morning. It's hard to tell from this photo, but we took it yesterday morning because she kept grinning at Tom.
We took this photo this morning in this cute dress she got from her Great Grandma Montgomery.

another video

I've been trying to get a good picture of Harper smiling, but the few that I did get were blurry, so I thought I might be able to catch one with the video camera and I did. You can click here to view the larger version.

Happy Birthday Chase!

Ok, I realize my last post was wishing a happy birthday to my sister, but today is my brother's birthday and I don't want him to feel left out. Today my little brother is 20. Crazy. My brother and I have always gotten along really well and I really appreciate his sense of humor and his great taste in music and movies. I hope you had a wonderful birthday Chase :) Here's Chase with my niece Hailey:

Tom has been working hard at the firm. He has stayed late a couple nights finishing up some projects, but he has also had some fun times. Last week they saw Indiana Jones one evening, and yesterday they went to speedzone. I kind of miss going to firm activities like I did last summer, but I love staying home with Harper so I don't miss it that much. Here is a photo from yesterday:

This has been a pretty great week because of a couple of wonderful things. The first was that Harper slept for 6 hours one night! It only happened once and she has since gone back to sleeping 3-4 hours, but it was pretty amazing. The second was that a couple days ago Harper really mellowed out. She has always been a good baby, but she did not like to be set down while she was awake and she wanted to eat constantly. She will now hang out in her crib or swing for 20 or so minutes and remain perfectly happy. This has made my life much easier. Here are a few photos from the last week:
